ARIZONA ANTIQUE MARKET
JANUARY 20-21-22, 2012

Iconic Glass Creations by Rene Lalique – “difference” that lies in the transcendence of ordinary glass to remarkable art.

Synonymous with French Art Noveau decorative arts, Rene’ Lalique creations are ones to be highly admired.

With his introduction of a technique known as “lost wax” by which the model is made of wax while a mold is formed around it, the wax then melted and molten glass is poured into the mold, he began something so rare it is envied by glass makers of today.

Pieces made prior to 1905 were done with this process and have become a highly desired item in the world of antiques and collectables, as each piece is truly one of a kind. The success of these unique creations however eventually lead to larger production and factory expansion creating an end to these unique creations, but certainly not the end to Lalique.

The talented Lalique soon opened his own glassworks at Comb-la-Ville in 1909 and became well know for a wide-variety of objects including perfume bottles, vases, inkwells, decorative boxes and bookends.

He even went as far as creating columns for the SS Normandie, interior and fittings and crosses for St. Matthew’s Church and even Illuminated hood ornaments for luxury cars such as Bugatti and Bentley.

Lalique glass is like no other. Made from lead based glass and typically acid-etched relief, Lalique glass is truly a work of art.  Louis Comfort Tiffany admired and revered the works of Rene Lalique and Emile Galle while seeing their works at the World Fairs. His admiration of them brought Lalique into the glass-making world from an interior design perspective.
